“When I first saw an announcement of Flightcoach’s simulator, I was quite sceptical. I remembered the time I had 3D goggles myself and it was a bit immature. But as soon as I got into the sim with Bas, I noticed how realistic they had made it. You really feel like you’re in the air and busy with your favorite hobby. All the brain cells focussed on flying in your head are refreshed again. A very useful addition to get more control over this amazing sport! In the simulator it is always flyable. What a great advantage this is over the actual flying. I think it’s an ideal addition if you want to be ready for the real thing faster!”

“I was selected to participate in the FlightCoach experiment. Super fun and educational training! Since it was a VR training, I felt safe and I was completely stress free. I can learn many things consciously without having to think about how far from the ground I am. “We were 100 KM from home with a group to go paragliding, when the instructor told of the possibility of paragliding with virtual reality. I was immediately excited and saw the opportunity to gain experience without having to wait for dry weather. Immediately responded to “Flightcoach” of Bas van Duijn, and made an appointment. Bas had explained very clearly how it works and full of confidence I have strapped myself into the harness. Then comes the fantastic question…” where would you like to fly… ever been to Annecy? immediately I was at 1800 m altitude above a lake, Then the coach asks if I’m ready for a bit of thermalling, and immediately he adds some thermic activity. I had some diffculty coring it properly so to help me he actually turned on a visualisation (by using red and green lines in real time) where the termal is. Fantastic… that really helps! After the mountains with strong winds and large dunes… delicious.. and what a coach…. Fantastic! A fantastic session that I will often think back on. All in all a fantastic experience that compares well to flying in real life and that I can recommend to everyone. This also offers the opportunity for paragliding schools to prepare people for real flying without mistakes immediately becoming fatal.”

“Recently I was introduced to Flightcoach’s VR Simulator. As a commercial pilot I come into contact with full flight simulators a lot and I am familiar with the usefulness of this way of training. Flightcoach’s VR Simulator turned out to be more realistic and useful than expected. As a novice paraglider I have experienced the training as extremely valuable because you can, among other things, practice specfic techniques and maneuvers in ideal conditions without having to pay attention to all facets. In addition, the direct feedback from the trainer creates a very steep learning curve. “In preparation for my 1st Week of Paragliding Training, I had the pleasure of practicing with Bas for a few hours in his Simulator. The realism of the environment and the control of the glider helped me so much during the week of the lesson that I had a pretty good start and already had the feeling that it wasn’t my first time. “I had the opportunity to try the brand new VR simulator over at Flightcoach.I booked a thermalling session, which started with some basic explanation of the session, a little guidance to adjust the VR headset properly, and off we go.The simulator felt realistic, it responds to brake input and weight shifting like you would expect it to, and the quality of the graphics (terrain) is more than sufficient.The simulated flight took place around lake Annecy. After a few minutes of concentrated flying, you don’t really notice that it’s “just” a simulation anymore. There was constant interaction with Bas where he explained the principles nicely, and you can immediately put the tips and tricks to practice which is a huge advantage of simulated flying: there is no downtime if you want to try something again, just reset and go again. Although I did have some prior flying experience, my thermalling experience is very limited, and this session was really nice to get a bit more feeling for finding the thermals, proper turning technique, and trying to climb at a constant rate. It will not take away the itch to fly again ASAP, but this is a brilliant tool to quickly improve certain aspects of your flying, even when the conditions outside are bad, the simulator is always flyable. I’m looking forward to come back sometime for another session!”

“What the simulator has brought me became immediately clear to me during the ground training…“The recognizability of the area!” Monday afternoon I was ready to make the first mountain flight after more than a day of ground training. Right from the start, the recognizability of the area gave me a certain form of peace. This form of rest certainly also applied to me when flying in the landing approach pattern reducing the height on the circuit and using the landmarks during the landing! The simulator is certainly an added value to prepare you for a fun but also exciting week of mountain flying!
